Dr. Hartmuth Bittner completed his academic training in Germany, earning an MD magna cum laude from the University of Heidelberg Medical School and a PhD summa cum laude from the National Academy of Sports and Sports Sciences. After relocating to the United States, he rose through the ranks at Duke University, ultimately becoming its chief resident of cardiothoracic surgery. Dr. Hartmuth Bittner went on to oversee heart and lung transplants as the chief of advanced cardiac surgery at AdventHealth Orlando and establish the Gulf Coast Cardiothoracic Surgery Institute in Tampa, Florida.

Since 2021, Dr. Hartmuth Bittner has performed a variety of cardiac surgical procedures as a practitioner with Cardiac Surgery Associates in Lafayette, Indiana. This organization supports more than 36 physicians at 24 locations throughout the American Midwest. Dr. Bittner plays a critical role in furthering the Cardiac Surgery Associate mission of using the latest medical technology to offer the best in modern treatment, with an emphasis on exceptional patient care.
